OPEN STUDIO: Bastiaan Arler – Past, Present and Future Works, Sun, Sept 23rd, 3pm

ARTIST STATEMENT

It is my pleasure to invite you to an open studio showcasing works that span the past, present and future of my artistic practice. During my stay at RAID Projects I have revisited earlier works and developed a number of ideas towards future projects. In particular, I will be showing a study for a timepiece that will track recurrent economic phenomena. Like the Mayan calendar which kept time through a series of interlocking wheels, this work will trace

economic cycles of varying duration, their relationship to each other, to the individual, and to society at large.

Please join me in an informal and open-ended discussion of art and toast to the endless forms it takes on.

Bastiaan Arler’s systems of mapping offer refreshing modes of understanding the world around us. During his residency Arler has extended his investigation into recurring themes within his practice and utilised the navigational, infrastructural and economic structures of Los Angeles to further his own systems of production.

This is a great opportunity to meet, view and discuss these themes directly with the artist and celebrate his time spent on residency at RAID projects.
